Owning an Electric Vehicle (EV) doesn't mean you can forget about servicing. While EVs have fewer moving engine components than petrol or diesel vehicles, they still require regular maintenance to ensure they remain safe, reliable and performing efficiently.

Regular servicing helps protect your investment, maximise battery performance and identify minor issues before they become expensive repairs.

At Petrie Mechanical Repairs, our qualified technicians have the specialist knowledge, equipment and safety procedures required to service Electric Vehicles with confidence.

Popular makes we service are BYD, Geely, Zeekr, BMW, Toyota, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Tesla and many more.

Unlike conventional vehicles, EVs don't require engine oil changes or many of the maintenance items associated with internal combustion engines. However, they still have many components that require routine inspection and maintenance, including:

Why Does an Electric Vehicle Need Servicing?

Cooling systems for batteries and electric motors

Regular inspections allow potential problems to be identified early, helping maintain vehicle reliability and safety.

Electric Vehicles operate using high-voltage electrical systems that can exceed hundreds of volts. These systems require specialised safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), insulated tools and manufacturer-approved service methods.

Servicing an EV isn't simply about plugging in a scan tool—working safely around high-voltage systems requires specialised training and the correct equipment.

That's why it's important to choose a workshop with technicians trained to work on Electric Vehicles.

Today's EVs rely heavily on sophisticated electronic systems and onboard computers.

At Petrie Mechanical Repairs, we have access to advanced diagnostic equipment and current technical information to accurately inspect, diagnose and service modern Electric Vehicles.

This allows us to monitor battery health, check for software updates, identify electronic faults and ensure your vehicle continues operating as the manufacturer intended.

Using quality replacement parts is essential for maintaining the reliability and performance of your EV.

Our technicians use quality components and follow manufacturer service procedures wherever applicable, giving you confidence that your vehicle is being maintained to a professional standard.

Many Electric Vehicle owners are surprised to learn that their new car warranty can generally be maintained by having scheduled servicing carried out at a qualified independent workshop, provided the manufacturer's servicing requirements are followed and appropriate parts and procedures are used.

If you're unsure about your vehicle's service schedule, our team can help.

Electric Vehicle Servicing

Hybrid vehicles are marvels of modern engineering, combining traditional internal combustion engines with electric powertrains. This dual-system setup requires a nuanced understanding of both mechanical and electrical components, ensuring both systems work in perfect harmony for optimal performance. At Petrie Mechanical Repairs, we recognise that maintaining a hybrid vehicle is not just about routine checks; it involves a deeper dive into the specifics of hybrid technology.

Understanding the Mechanics of Hybrid Cars

One of the most critical components of a hybrid vehicle is its battery. Hybrid batteries differ significantly from standard car batteries and require specialised knowledge to assess their health and longevity. At Petrie Mechanical Repairs, our technicians are equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to evaluate the condition of your hybrid battery, ensuring it performs at its peak and extends its lifespan.

Hybrid cars feature a regenerative braking system that recovers energy typically lost during braking and uses it to recharge the battery. Our skilled team understands the intricacies of this system, providing thorough inspections and maintenance to ensure your vehicle's braking performance remains efficient and reliable.

While the electric motor is a standout feature of hybrids, the internal combustion engine (ICE) still plays a vital role. Regular maintenance of the ICE is crucial for the overall efficiency of your hybrid vehicle. Our experts at Petrie Mechanical Repairs are well-versed in servicing these engines, from oil changes to comprehensive engine checks, ensuring they complement the electric motor seamlessly.

3. Internal Combustion Engine Maintenance:

The transmission system in a hybrid car is unique, often being a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a specialised hybrid gearbox. Our technicians have the experience and knowledge necessary to maintain and repair these complex systems, keeping your car running smoothly and efficiently.

Hybrid vehicles rely heavily on software and electronic systems for efficient operation. Our team at Petrie Mechanical Repairs stays ahead of the curve with the latest software updates and diagnostic procedures, ensuring your vehicle's electronic systems are always current and functioning correctly.
